Product Description
Black andesite in a rectangular bowl
This rectangular vessel sink is carved by hand from black andesite quarried in Turkey. Andesite is a volcanic stone, formed from cooled lava, with a fine, even grain and a deep charcoal colour. The sink measures 33 inches long, 20 inches wide and 6 inches high, and its honed matte finish gives it a soft, touchable surface. Each piece comes out of the workshop slightly different, with subtle colour variations across the stone.
A matte, volcanic surface
The finish is honed: smooth to the touch, but matte rather than glossy. On black stone this shows fewer water spots, and it gives the sink a calm, architectural look. The rectangular form is simple, with straight lines that suit modern, contemporary, transitional and traditional bathrooms alike. Moderate colour variation is normal for andesite, and small natural marks in the stone differ from sink to sink.
- Honed finish A smooth matte surface that shows fewer water spots.
- Volcanic stone Fine-grained black andesite, carved from a single block.
Generous size for a primary bath
At 33 by 20 inches, this is a large basin, well suited to a primary bath or a generous powder room vanity. The black stone contrasts strongly with white, gray or light wood tops, and also works tone on tone with a dark counter. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain fittings.
- Size 33" L × 20" W × 6" H, solid black andesite.
- Drain 4 cm drain hole for standard drain fittings.
On the counter or dropped in
The sink is listed for above-counter or drop-in installation. Set on top, it needs a flat, level, strong counter, with a drain hole cut to match the 4 cm drain, and it is bedded in silicone; the faucet must then reach over the 6 inch rim, so plan a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. Dropped in, the counter is cut to the outline of the sink, which lowers the rim and works with a standard deck faucet.
Why we chose it
- Volcanic stone Andesite gives a deep black with a fine, even grain.
- Two install options Above-counter or drop-in, to suit the scope of the renovation.
- Made to order Each sink is made to order, with custom sizes and finishes on request.
Made to order
This sink is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Both are the same 33 by 20 inch honed sink. It can also be made in a custom size or finish. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the vanity.
Care
Andesite is a natural volcanic stone with some porosity, so sealing helps keep water and stains out of the honed surface, and acidic or harsh chemicals can mark it. How often it is resealed depends on use.
