Natural Stone Slate Siding
Slate stones are a type of natural stone formed from volcanic ash, siltstone, and mudstone. They are found in various colors in nature depending on the minerals and elements they contain. They are commonly found in yellow, black, brown, gray, green, and maroon colors. Depending on the amount of minerals they contain, glittery, shimmering examples are also frequently encountered. Slate is resistant to UV rays and all weather conditions, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. In addition to being used as wall cladding, it is also widely used as flooring. The surfaces are naturally anti-slip due to their porous structure, making them suitable for wet areas such as pool sides.
Slate stone blocks obtained from nature are sized according to the required measurements and glued onto a mesh, then left to dry. The mesh-backed slate siding products you purchase are quite easy to apply. First, the wall is cleaned of dirt and dust. The prepared adhesive mortar is spread onto the surface and the back of the mesh with a trowel. The slate siding panel with the mortar is placed onto the surface. Then, the next slate siding panel is spread with mortar on its back and placed on the surface so that the edges interlock. This process continues in the same way until the application is complete. Finally, the surface is left to dry.
Slate sidings can also be applied without mesh. The stones are placed one by one like bricks on a wall with adhesive mortar. Before full drying, the joint gaps are cleaned with a stick to remove excess mortar and left to dry completely.
