Maya Grey marble, round and polished

This round sink is handcrafted from Maya Grey marble quarried in Turkey. The stone shows warm brown-grey tones with natural veining, and since each sink is carved individually, no two are alike. At 16 inches in diameter and 6 inches high, it can sit on top of the counter as a vessel or be set into a pre-cut opening as a drop-in sink.

Brown-grey depth under polish

Maya Grey sits between brown and grey, a warm neutral rather than a cold one. The polished finish brings out the depth and movement of the stone: subtle shifts in colour, organic veining and a soft glow when light falls across the bowl. The bowl is a simple round with curved walls, 2 to 3 cm thick. There is no overflow hole, which keeps the inside of the bowl clean and uninterrupted. Moderate colour variation from piece to piece is normal for this marble, and each sink carries its own mix of brown and grey.

Vessel or drop-in, bath or kitchen

The sink works two ways. On top of the counter, it is a vessel that shows its full rounded form. Set into a pre-cut opening, it becomes a drop-in sink that works with an existing vanity without structural changes. It is suited to both bathrooms and kitchens, wherever a compact round basin is needed, such as a bar or prep sink. At 16 inches across, it fits most vanity sizes. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain fittings; because there is no overflow, the drain should be one made for sinks without an overflow.

Two ways to set it

Solid marble is heavy, so whichever way it is installed, the counter must be flat, level and strong. As a vessel, the sink sits on the counter over a drain hole cut to match the 4 cm drain and is set in silicone; the faucet must then reach over the rim, so a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted faucet is needed. As a drop-in, the counter opening is cut to suit the sink, the sink is lowered in and sealed with silicone, and a standard height faucet can serve it.

This sink is made to order on two production schedules, both in the 16 inch size with a polished finish. The 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Care

Maya Grey is a calcite marble, and marble is porous: acidic cleaners, vinegar, lemon, coffee and wine can etch the polished surface, and stains can set if the stone is not sealed. How often it is resealed depends on use, typically once a year.
