SMALL OUTDOOR WATER FOUNTAIN
A Fallen Log Lying on Its Side, Not a Post Standing Up
A hollowed section of tree root lying horizontally, with a small pool of water inside it, pebbles scattered across the bottom and two painted goldfinches perched on the rim. Water moves quietly within the hollow. Warm light sits in the pool. It is wider than it is tall.
That horizontal shape is what separates it from everything else here. Fountains stand up. This one lies down, which means it fills a gap along the front of a border, at the base of a wall, or beside a step, and does it without interrupting anything behind it.
The bark texture is deeply modelled with real hollows and root forms rather than a repeating pattern, so it reads as a found piece of wood rather than as a moulded log.
What Makes This Fountain Different
- It lies down, which solves a problem vertical fountains cannot. Almost every water feature is taller than it is wide, which means it stands in front of something and blocks it. A horizontal log fits along the front edge of a border, at the foot of a wall, beside a step, or under a window where anything upright would be in the way. If you have wanted water somewhere and every fountain you looked at was too tall for it, this is the shape that fits.
- Deeply modelled root form, not a repeating bark pattern. The hollows, knots, and split ends are individually shaped, so it holds up when you look closely rather than showing the same texture tile repeated around the surface.
- Pebbles and birds inside the hollow. The detail is set within the piece rather than perched on top of it, so the eye has to look into the log to find it. That rewards proximity, which suits something at ground level that people pass close to.
- Light in the water, not on the bark. The LED sits within the pool so the water glows and the surrounding root form stays dark, which at ground level reads as a lit hollow in the planting rather than as an illuminated object.
Very quiet. The water moves within an enclosed hollow rather than falling from any height, so there is no drop and no impact. This is a piece you notice by looking rather than by hearing. It suits a spot beside seating or under a window where a cascade would be too much. How loud it seems will still shift with the water level and the surfaces around it, which is why a fixed decibel number would tell you nothing useful about your own garden.

Setup, Care, and Warranty
Setup and placement
Fill it, plug it in, done. No plumbing and nothing to bury. It sits directly on the ground.
Set it level. A tilted hollow pools the water at one end and leaves the other dry, which is visible on a shallow interior pool.
Where a horizontal piece works
The front edge of a border, the base of a wall, beside a step, under a window, along a path. Anywhere you want water without an upright object in the way. It also works partly tucked into planting, since the form reads as something that fell there.
Water level and daily care
Keep enough water in the hollow to cover the pump so it never runs dry. A shallow open pool at ground level evaporates quickly and collects debris faster than a raised design, so check every few days.
Clear leaves and soil from the pool. At ground level it will collect more than a raised fountain does, particularly in autumn.
Looking after the painted finish
The bark and the birds are painted resin. Years of unbroken sun will lift some depth out of the color. Clean with a soft cloth and keep harsh liquid cleaners off, particularly around the birds where the detail is finest. Sitting at ground level it will also pick up soil splash, which wipes off.
Winter storage
Before hard freezes, drain the hollow completely, disconnect and store the pump indoors, and dry the piece out. An open pool collects rain and snow all winter, so cover it or bring it inside once drained.

Questions Before You Choose
Is it upright or lying down?
Lying down. It is a horizontal section of hollowed root, wider than it is tall, that sits directly on the ground. That is unusual and it is the main reason to choose it over a standing trunk design.
Can you hear it?
Barely. The water circulates within an enclosed hollow rather than falling, so there is no impact sound. This is a piece for looking at rather than listening to. If you want an audible fountain, choose a tiered design.
Where does it look right?
Woodland and informal gardens, the front of a planted border, beside a lawn edge, among ferns and shade planting. It reads as a fallen log, so it needs green around it. In a formal or paved setting it will look like an object rather than a find.
Is it safe around children and pets?
It sits on the ground and cannot topple, which makes it one of the safer designs here. The open pool is at ground level and within easy reach, so animals will drink from it and small children can reach in. Run the cord where it will not catch a foot. The recirculating water is not intended for drinking.
