Seagrass Gray Limestone Rectangular Vessel Sink 18x21.4 Hand Chiseled

Gray limestone with a hand-chiseled face

This rectangular vessel sink is carved from gray limestone quarried in Turkey. It measures 21.4 inches long, 18 inches wide and 4 inches high, with walls 2 to 3 cm thick, and it sits on top of the vanity so the stone itself is the focal point. The exterior is chiseled by hand and the interior is honed smooth. That contrast between a rough outside and a quiet, smooth basin is what gives the sink its character.

Chiseled outside, honed inside

The hand-chiseled exterior is where the stone shows its texture. Each strike of the chisel leaves a small facet, so the sides catch light and throw shadow, and the effect changes as daylight moves across the room. The interior is honed, which leaves it smooth and matte for everyday use while keeping the warm, natural feel of the limestone. Limestone carries its own geological record. Mineral inclusions, fine veining and fossil traces give each block a pattern that cannot be reproduced, and even two basins carved from the same block will differ. Moderate color variation within the gray is normal for this stone. Because the chiseling is done by hand, the texture of each sink is also individual.

• Hand-chiseled exterior A faceted, rugged texture cut into the stone by hand, which catches light and shadow.
• Honed interior A smooth, matte basin for daily use, in contrast to the rough sides.

A low basin on the vanity

Vessel sinks give up a little counter space, but they show the stone in full, which is the reason to choose one like this. The rectangular format displays both the chiseled sides and the honed basin, and at 4 inches high it sits low on the counter with a calm profile. At 21.4 by 18 inches, the basin is broad enough for everyday washing. The gray limestone suits rustic, organic contemporary, minimalist and transitional bathrooms, and it sits well next to wood, plaster, brass and blackened steel. The 4 cm drain hole takes standard drain fittings, so the sink connects to typical plumbing.

• Size 21.4" L × 18" W × 4" H, walls 2 to 3 cm thick.
• Drain 4 cm drain hole for standard drain connections.

A flat counter, a well-placed faucet

The sink installs above the counter with little structural complexity. The counter must be flat and level, and strong enough to carry a solid limestone basin, which most vanities are, though it is worth confirming with the installer. A drain hole is cut in the counter to match the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone around its base. Because the basin is only 4 inches high, a standard-height deck faucet can work if its spout clears the rim and reaches the center of the bowl; a wall-mounted faucet is another clean option. Check the faucet reach before the counter is cut, and confirm the drain and supply positions with a plumber.

Why we chose it

• Two textures in one stone A hand-chiseled exterior and a honed interior, both cut from the same piece of limestone.
• Ages with patina Over the years the limestone deepens in patina rather than looking dated.
• Made to order Each sink is made to order, with custom sizes and finishes on request.

Made to order

This sink is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. If the vanity needs a different size or finish, the sink can be made to custom dimensions. To start a custom order, contact us with the measurements of the counter.

Care

Limestone is a porous calcite stone, so it can absorb liquids if left unsealed, and acids such as vinegar or citrus can etch the honed surface. Sealing creates a barrier that slows moisture and stains, and how often the sink is resealed depends on how much it is used.
