This vessel sink is carved from a single solid block of silver gray travertine quarried in Turkey. It measures 26 inches long, 16 inches wide and 5 inches high. The outside is hand chiseled into an organic, irregular form that no machine reproduces; the inside is polished smooth. Because each piece is cut by hand from its own block, the shape, the colour shifts and the striations differ from one sink to the next, and no two are alike.

Raw outside, polished inside

The two surfaces tell the story of how the sink is made. The interior is polished to a smooth, mirror-like finish that feels soft under the hands in daily use. The exterior is hand chiseled, left with the marks of the tools so the texture of the stone carving stays visible and tactile. Because the sink sits above the counter, that chiseled outer wall is fully on show rather than hidden under a countertop. The outline follows the block, so the form is slightly irregular, with no straight factory edge. Subtle colour shifts and striations run through the gray travertine; they are part of the stone and differ in every sink.

Show the whole stone

This is an above-counter sink, so the whole carved form stays visible and there is no undermount cutout to plan. The counter must be flat, level and strong, since solid stone is heavy. A drain hole is cut to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in silicone. The rim stands 5 inches above the counter, so pair it with a tall vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout, and choose the faucet before the counter is drilled. A professional installer is recommended.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids and harsh chemicals can etch the polished interior, and hard water can leave mineral deposits. Sealing keeps staining agents on the surface rather than in the stone, and how often it is resealed depends on use.
