This square vessel sink is carved entirely from one solid block of Calacatta Viola marble by artisans in Turkey. The stone has a white base with gray veining, and no two sinks are alike, so each one carries its own pattern. It measures 16 inches wide, 16 inches long and 6 inches high. The exterior is ribbed, the interior is smooth, and the whole sink is polished. It sits on top of the counter and suits a bathroom or a kitchen.

Ribbed outside, smooth inside

The ribbed exterior is more than decoration. The vertical ribs add sculptural depth and help hide fingerprints and water spots on the outside of the bowl. Inside, the polished basin is smooth, and the curved edges make cleaning simpler and leave no corners for dirt to gather in. Because the sink is carved from one block, the basin has no joints or seams. The square form gives the sink a clean, architectural outline, and the ribs soften it. The hand-finished surfaces and natural color variation are hallmarks of handwork, and moderate variation between pieces is normal.

A square bowl with presence

At 16 inches square, the basin is roomy enough for daily grooming, and the 6 inch height helps keep water in the bowl. Set it on a level counter

The sink sits on top of the counter. Solid marble is heavy, so the counter must be flat, level and strong. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the drain, and the sink is set in silicone. Because the rim stands 6 inches above the counter, the faucet must reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. Choose the faucet before the counter is cut.

Care

Calacatta Viola is a calcite marble and, like all marble, a porous stone, so acidic cleaners and liquids can etch the polished surface. Once sealed it resists stains well, and how often it is resealed depends on use.
