The lake has a large watershed dominated by row crops, forest, and pasture, creating a highly productive fishery managed primarily for Northern Pike with last surveys showing good fishing for Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, and large Smallmouth Bass. The lake features excellent water clarity with Secchi depth readings of 10.5 feet in late June and average summer clarity of 13 feet, while dissolved oxygen remains adequate to support fish down to 35 feet. Emergent and floating leaf vegetation including cattail, waterlily, and bulrush cover more than half the shoreline, with chara and coontail providing submerged vegetation that creates exceptional fish habitat. A city-owned public access on the northeast corner provides convenient boat launching, making the lake ideal for fishing, boating, water sports, kayaking, swimming at the city's public beach, and year-round ice fishing.

The artistic design features a natural wood top layer of maple or birch that perfectly frames the lake's 236-acre shape and four miles of shoreline detail within the city of Avon, while the water depths are represented through a dramatic gradient flowing from light blue in the shallow vegetated areas to rich deep blue at the remarkable 81-foot maximum depth, one of the deepest lakes in Stearns County.
