It takes a standard E12 bulb (Max 40W), so you can fit an LED or a vintage Edison bulb. Dimming depends on the bulb: fit a dimmable E12 bulb with a compatible wall dimmer for full dimming control. The default bulb is not dimmable.

Is it plug-in or hardwired?

It's hardwired — it mounts to a standard wall junction box, with no plug or cord showing, and sits flush and close to the wall. If you're comfortable with basic wiring it's straightforward; otherwise any electrician can install it quickly. Always turn off the power at the breaker first.
