Description
SET is an award-winning card game that challenges players to identify matching card combinations based on visual pattern recognition. Designed by Marsha Falco in 1974 and published by Set Enterprises in 1991, the game has become a beloved classic for families, casual players, and strategy enthusiasts alike. The deck contains 81 cards that are shuffled and placed 12 face-up in a grid at the center of the table, with the remainder held in reserve for ongoing play.
- Real-Time Gameplay Without Turns: Players compete simultaneously in real-time, trying to find and take sets of 3 cards that are either completely the same or completely different in any category, creating fast-paced, all-hands-in-play action.
- Four Attributes for Pattern Recognition: Each card varies in four features across three possibilities: number of shapes (one, two, or three), shape (diamond, squiggle, oval), shading (solid, striped, or open), and color (red, green, or purple), giving players multiple patterns to identify and match.
- Simple Rules, High-Skill Gameplay: A SET is three cards where each individual feature is either all the same OR all different. The game's mechanics include set gathering, pattern recognition and real-time play, developing visual acuity and cognitive speed.
- Flexible Player Count and Duration: The game accommodates 1+ players and works equally well for solo play, head-to-head competition, or group sessions, making it adaptable to any gathering size.
- Award-Winning and Skill-Based: In 1991, Set won the Mensa Select Award, in 1995 it came in 2nd place in À La Carte awards, and in 1997 it was again awarded the Parents' Choice Gold Award, proving its enduring appeal across age groups and competitive circles.
The game is fast-paced fun that builds skills and exercises the brain, and because it has a rule of logic and requires players to apply this rule to the spatial array of patterns all at once, they must use both left brain and right brain thought processes. Whether you're seeking screen-free entertainment for family gatherings, a portable game for travel, or a mental challenge that sharpens pattern recognition, SET delivers timeless gameplay that never feels the same twice.
